Executive Coach Shanghai

Raf Adams The Suited Monk

My ideal clients is a high achiever who is self-aware, smart, fast thinking and open to change. He is successful in his career but wants more meaning and fulfillment in both work and life and wants to find his path.

If that’s you, please read on, I can help you!

My background

I pursued a career in Shipping & Logistics, came to China in 2006 as an expat pursuing my corporate success. There was only one problem, I was not happy, I lacked meaning and purpose in life. I felt emotionally drained and I was disconnected from myself.

To make matters worse, in 2008, I was laid off just before the global financial downturn.

I then decided to make a bold move to pursue my passion ”helping people (that’s what I felt at that time)”. I came to Shanghai in 2008, without a network, with no experience in the training & coaching business and no mandarin experience. In 2 years I build a business out of doing what I love and today we have office in Shanghai, Beijing and London. More importantly, I re-connected with myself find meaning and purpose and found the love of my life Suzy.

I’ve published 2 books The Suited Monk and Suited Monk Leadership, did 2 coaching certifications in 2008 and 2009 (advanced coaching), studied NLP and have helped over 1000 people through my seminars and workshop over the past 7 years in Fortune 500 companies and public programs.

I would love for you to find your path too so you can be happy too. Here’s the process we will walk together.

My coaching process:

  1. Understanding you and your life journey (the big picture) (1 hour)
  2. Help you identify blind spots and connect the dots on your life journey (this may include mentoring to help you understand the bigger picture of the life journey) (1 hour and ongoing)
  3. Resolve negative emotions to close your SUIT-MONK GAP. If you are not familiar yet with the SUITED MONK concept, feel free to read the book first (on but this is not mandatory. This part will increase your level of peace, happiness and confidence
  4. Develop your purpose and discover what gives meaning to you in life
  5. Take action on developing your purpose (sometimes in alignment with your current job/career)
  6. Monetize your purpose and transition slowly
  7. Find internal and external alignment to find joy daily
  8. Develop an action plan to help you integrate your life path (your Monk) with work / career (your Suit)
  9. Email support and live chat included 24/7 (What’s App / Wechat)

This process can go as fast as 3 months to 6 months, weekly or bi-weekly mentoring calls depending on your specific work and life situation.

PS: I am not the right executive coach and mentor for every leader, please let me know which areas you’d like to work on in your email. If the objectives are in line with my expertise, my colleague Suzy will schedule an appointment for us to have an initial phone conversation, a chemistry check to determine the next steps.

My Monk Profile:

My mission in life is simple. I help successful people get more fulfillment in life by aligning their internal and external self. With 10 years of experience of living in Asia first as an expat then becoming an entrepreneur, having burned out, making a career transition in the financial downturn in 2008 in a new industry in a new location (from Hong Kong to Shanghai), setting up 2 foreign companies in China – finding my spiritual path in the process, closing my own GAP and spiritual awakening – finding true love I was able to find my path and balance my internal and external self. As a result I became happier inside and enjoy my life in the external world.

In the past 8 years I have helped over a 1000 people through my workshops and coaching, to help them find their path and happiness in both life and leadership. I’m in a great place right now and I love helping people to find their path so they can be happy too.Picture1

How do I do it? Very simple, by connecting YOUR dots in life. We will first go through The Suited Monk GAP assessment together to help you become aware of where you are on the life journey. Next we will identify the steps to help you close the GAP so your internal and external self will be aligned. Potential areas of coaching could include, career transition to find your path, personal healing to close the GAP, self-awareness and leading from within.

PS: I am not a Monk, I am not attached to any religion of philosophy or belief system. I believe everyone has their gift and inner power inside of them (MONK), I help my clients to discover this by connecting their dots and enhancing their self-awareness so they can be successful in the MONK and the external world (SUIT).

I live by my principles and values and ALWAYS make a decision according to my Monk. Up till this day I have never compromised no matter how much the Suit return was. If it doesn’t feel right, it simply doesn’t feel right and if it feels right I go for it. This lead me to closing the GAP, a happy life and still being able to be successful externally.

I work with a team who believe in the Suited Monk philosophy, they are executive coaches and workshop leaders and speakers. You can find some of their profiles below. I am also a partner at GLO to help build and select responsible leadership for the world. We have a team of 10 staff and operate in China.

If you’d like to work with me or believe in what I stand for, feel free to connect and reach out. I am also on LinkedIn, Facebook and Youtube. Looking forward to connect!

About the Author

Raf Adams – Executive Coach Shanghai

Raf is the author of The Suited Monk (available at, Chief Wisdom Officer and co-founder at Good Leaders Online (

He spends most of his time speaking and teaching on the subject of authenticity in life and organizations such as CEIBS and TEDx. Prior to his current career as a professional speaker and coach, he worked for eight years in sales in an international shipping company.

As an executive coach in Shanghai, Raf developed The Suited Monk concept to help other people find happiness and purpose in their life and career. Raf Adams was considered to be successful in the corporate world at a young age by colleagues, friends and family. However, his personal life was anything but successful. He was deeply unhappy in his job, he was struggling to find a sense of purpose and meaning and not happy in his work and life environment.

When he was 27 he experienced a spontaneous awakening which led him to his current career as an author, teacher and speaker specializing in corporate leadership.

It was from his own experience and research that Raf created the Life Journey ® and GAP models which are completely unique in the coaching and personal growth sector.

In today’s society, many of us struggle to experience lasting happiness and contentment and find little purpose orfulfillment in our work and day-to-day lives. Modern society exerts a constant, subtle pressure to conform to the expectations of others, and to seek a version of success that is acceptable to the people around us but that does not necessarily meet our own most heartfelt needs and desires. Even if we manage to reach certain goals, the happiness they bring us rarely lasts long.

Because of this dynamic, some of us suffer deeply and experience a huge gap between the life we really want, with a deep feeling of joy about who we truly are, and the reality of the life we actually have.

By learning to synthesize your intuition, happiness, love, purpose, and life force (represented by your inner Monk) with the external world of success and achievement (represented by the Suit you wear), you will be able to close the gap and tap into the vast abundance that exists within you, both in your professional life and personal relationships.

His Suited Monk concept is based on the next generation of leadership development which is focused on self-knowledge, self-mastery and greater wisdom and compassion.

His articles have been published in Forbes India, The Economist Intelligence Unit and Korea Times.
